GOLF CLUB INFORMATIONHOMES FOR SALE IN DESERT MOUNTAIN
The private, gated golf community of Desert Mountain is nestled in the high Sonoran Desert in North Scottsdale, and protected to the north and east by the Tonto National Forest. From the golf courses and community, the long, distant views to the south, east and west are inspiring. Due to its elevation, the community experiences relatively cooler temperatures in the summer than most Arizona golf property. Located on the perimeter of the city, the community offers easy access to airports, shopping and entertainment, yet is also close to Arizona's many lakes, streams, ski resorts and expansive mountain ranges.

Jack Nicklaus - the very name IS Golf! Desert Mountain is the only private country club in the United States to offer six of his signature courses. Cochise, Renegade, Apache, Geronimo, Chiracahua, and Outlaw. Six Distinct golf clubhouses, one to service each course are also featured. The 52,000 square foot Cochise/Geronimo Clubhouse offers contemporary American cuisine in a floor-to-ceiling glass-enclosed dining room that affords views of the golf courses, mountains and sunsets. The Apache Clubhouse features an expansive pro shop and the Apache Grill, offering a menu that emphasizes premium dry-aged prime beef, an extensive wine list and an intimate piano bar with nightly entertainment. The Chiricahua Clubhouse features old world architecture, authentic northern Italian cuisine, an impressive wine selection, and professional catering services for members.

A fourth clubhouse, the Sonoran Clubhouse, offers alternative recreational activities to golf, including tennis (on three surfaces - grass, clay and hard court), two swimming pools, a state of the art fitness center, locker room facilities including sauna and steam baths, and spa and massage services.
Cochise Course

Every year the Cochise course is host to The Tradition at Desert Mountain, a "major" stop on the PGA's Senior Tour. 7,019-yards and surrounded by the rugged Sonoran Desert, this course demands a thoughtful and strategic approach. None other than Jack Nicklaus himself has called the Cochise course one of the most picturesque golf courses in the world.
No wonder it has been named to "America's 100 Greatest Courses" (Golf Digest, 1993), "Best Course in Each State" (Golf Digest, 1993 - Top 10 in Arizona), "Best Maintained Golf Course" (Golf Course News, 1992 - As Ranked by PGA Tournament Players). From the "big boys" tees the course measures 7048
yards of soft, smooth slopes, rolling fairways and challenging approach shots (Officially it rates at 72.7 with a slope of 144). Bill Huffman, the golf writer for The Arizona Republic and The Phoenix Gazette, has rated this course in the top 25 for Arizona's private golf clubs. Desert Mountain real estate along the Cochise course is among the most sought after Arizona golf property around.
Renegade Course

The Renegade Course is the graybeard of the group and can be as ornery as its name. Nevertheless, this course can also be "nice", letting the player decide how challenging a round to play due to two pin placements at every hole. One pin is set forward and the other is placed in a more difficult position.
It has been rated as "America's 100 Greatest Courses"(Golf Digest, 1993), "Best Course in Each State"(Golf Digest, 1993 - Top 10 for Arizona). Bill Huffman, the golf writer for The Arizona Republic, has rated this course in the top 25 for Arizona's private golf clubs
Apache Course

This course appeared in early 1996. The course measures 7,300 yards and sports a more accommodating par-72. Of all the courses this is perhaps the most traditional "desert" course. Large greens make it easy to bump and run. It is known for its famous "disappearing green."
In the old Scottish tradition, the entire putting surface is not visible. Bill Huffman, the golf writer for The Arizona Republic, has rated this course in the top 25 for Arizona's private golf clubs

Geronimo Course

The Geronimo Course starts out deceptively simple, but then makes some nasty changes on the back 9. Nicklaus himself called the course, "the strong-looking course." With its large elevation changes, deep canyons, this 7,414 yard course rates a respectable 75.2 and was name "Best Course in Each State"(Golf Digest, 1993 - Top 10 for Arizona). Bill Huffman, the golf writer for The Arizona Republic, has rated this course in the top 25 for Arizona's private golf clubs.

Chiricahua Course

Chiricahua was recently called the best golf course in Arizona by Rick Bullock, golf writer for the Scottsdale Tribune. The 7,424-yard par-72 layout is at a dramatic elevation above the other Desert Mountain courses and offers majestic views of the world below. It is designed so most players should find short grass off the tee. It also has plenty of closely clipped chipping and bailout around many of the greens, which should appeal to players of lesser ability. Every hole at Chiricahua is memorable and requires great shot-making to score.

Outlaw Course

In the tradition of a Scottish links course, Outlaw is different in style from the other five courses at Desert Mountain. With this course Nicklaus' goal was "to take what nature gave us and try to enhance it". He took advantage of the many subtle features of the terrain including native washes, gently rolling hills and many spectacular views when designing this Arizona golf property. Demanding players hit a variety of high, low and bump-and-run shots, you had better bring your ground game to the Outlaw. To maintain the unspoiled views of Pinnacle Peak, the McDowell Mountains and Four Peaks, Outlaw does not have any homes built along the course and encourages golfers walk and play this course the way the game was intended to be played. While there is not any Desert Mountain real estate directly on the Outlaw, its presence contributes a great deal to the Arizona golf property of Desert Mountain as a whole.
